Top mmorpgs on my list

These mmorpgs chosen are the ones that I have already played. Since I only have so much time and could not play as much as I wanted to nor is my pc giving me the best graphics available (damn pc!) I would have this updated in time. But for now, the games that tickled this blogger's imagination and gave me countless nights and made me as thin as I am now (joke), here are the list and the memories :

1. Ragnarok Online (private server) - Who could've known this grandpappy would be so much fun if the boundaries were broken? In a time where I still had my net cafe, I learned how to edit servers, and one time launched a shop-only server. This was like the high exp server nowadays, but this was something special. Town pvp, boss fight spawns, overpowered cards (drowsy card, anyone?Mine gives +20 to all stats!) Philippine items and any other thing I could think of to ease the burdens of most online games. This resulted in much bragging and figural shoving, and the wee-est of tots could pick up this game and play it.

2. MU Online - Post global, after all the hacks and bullying on global. When this baby came out it was free to play, and heck why don't we give it a try? Wife and I played for one hour..then another...then another...In a quest to find the jewel of chaos, bless and soul and to level up for the wings requirement. Along the way came guilds, guild pvps and trash talking and item collecting. It was like diablo's social brother! But when the shit hit the fan...im talking about scammers. I know I'm stupid, but back then I was a sucker for power. Customer service was kind enough to look into it, but I was already jaded and looking for other games.

3. Maplestory - I know, grind really is HELL. At times I just quit playing for the longest time, but this game kept pulling me in. Quit global for lag and simply rude gamers, and joined maple sea. Not really english speaking guys, but responsible gamers nonetheless ^_^ Simplicity is the key to this game, just go to a map and grind away! Item and equips variety rival Ragnarok, new quests for every 5 levels, cool skills and the inherent bragging rights. Maple also updates itself constantly to keep the game fresh

final fantasy tactics (psp)

Summary : Join Ramza and his friends in a struggle against...uh, what the heck! Convoluted story, but basically kicking monstrous monsters with zodiac names. From the ps1 port to the psp, along with upgraded graphics, a new job class and cut scenes.

What I like about this game : Ever since it came out in the 90's this game is considered on of the best of all times. Not for the story, dammit, but for the job classes, abilities, nuances such as hidden characters, chess-like battle(turn based, by the way) system, and item collecting. Try asking a hardcore gamer about it, and only hear praises. Even the casual gamers(like yours truly)have tried this and loved it. 50+ hours of gaming life, sweet! It really is fun trying to master all the job classes, trying out class/abilities combo crossovers, and trying to garner all the playable characters. sadly...

What I don't like about this game : It all comes to an end. Why not make it continous? Like after the defeat of the final boss, a new game comes out, just try to finish all the missions and bring all your characters to level 99, like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Isn't this standard for Final Fantasy series? This will double the replayability of the game itself, and make geek gamers brag about the highest level they achieved(kinda like pokemon gamers ^_^) I know I would!

Final Verdict : TRY THIS GAME! you will not get any other opinion, verdict, final judgement other than THIS ^_^

diner dash (pc)

Here's a guest review for a game, baby_pammie ^_^ enjoy

Summary : Dear friend Flo here to save a restaurant from being bulldozed and friends from being broke. Need to earn enough money by attracting more customers through their stomach's satisfaction.

What I like about the game : cool simple graphics of people from all walks of life, from babies to grannies. singles, cute couples, quiet librarians, businesswomen or plain noisy cellphone addicts. hearing their cries, chit-chat and whispers make you feel like you're in charge of pleasing that crowd. upon completing levels you unlock new restaurants to decorate and new varieties of food snacks and drinks to serve. not only that you get to match Flo's dress with the ambiance, just like the paperdolls we used to play with :)

What I don't like about the game : game's very easy at the start you'd enjoy serving customers here and there but come the latter part...hah! you'll be scrambling keeping up with diff kinds of people with their own attitudes and patience meter, torturing you since you're almost done with thhe game and just can't let go.

Final Verdict : a great fulfilling game to finish. If you're up with the challenge, accept you can't please everybody coz the diners here come and go, just meet the goal and you'll beat the diner dash if you just go with the Flo!

Patapon (psp)

Summary : Rythmic real time strategy (think dance revo meets starcraft), press 4 buttons in sequence to make the little stick tribemen with big eyes( I swear I drew those when I was a wee toddler) attack, defend, run, etc. Help them find the IT to regain their former glory and defeat their mortal enemies, the zigotons.

What I like about the game : They're cute little sticks that chant and say things like "tayo tayo tayo!" and "love baby" (at least that's what I thought it was) when they reach 10 combos and hit "fever mode". Aside from the unique gameplay from the makers of Loco Roco game, they feature collectible materials to make stronger patapons and better weapons, making it sorta RPG. The part where you collect materials to make stronger tribemen sticks alone is enough to suck you in.

What I don't like about the game : The game hinted about "making your patapons stronger" in-between loading times, and I only found out about how to really do it halfway through the game. I had to start over, because the materials I collected from bosses were apparently crap ^_^ And I had help from gamefaqs. Stronger patapons are essential for defeating the game!

Final Verdict : Read through any walkthrough 1st, and you skip the frustration part. Item collecting can be confusing, but well worth it when you have a massive army of stickmen-tribemen-chanting creatures hurling arrows and spears like no tomorrow ^_^

How to Improve MovieGame Tie-ins

Moviegame tie-ins suck. Why? because movie-license owners only care about shipping the game to the public the same time the said movie comes out in big screen. Meaning, game developers must try to squeeze in a workable game with incredible time pressure. Results : Faithful to the movie, but taboo even to the casual gamer. Even with said knock-off-your-socks graphics, its either too short or too unplayably ugly gameplay-wise. So, whats a poor programmer to do?aside from programming inside the anabolic time chamber dragonball z style(inside joke), follow these suggestions and change the way we think about these games....

1. The Marvel Universe in a Persistent Game World. Look at how gaming is going these days. everything is online now, and with the invention of updates or "patches", its what the overworked programmer needs. No, not the generic superhero mmorpg, but licensed Marvel ones. I mean, we are gonna see a LOT of these movies, and why not tie all these in a huge world? And please include *salivate* The X-Men, Incredible Hulk, Spiderman, Ironman and everyone else. This Universe is big enough to accomodate originality and uniqueness so only one can be Wolverine, Phoenix, Captain America and so on and forth.

2. Along the lines, since DOTA is such a popular game nowadays, or maybe a modder can work this - Marvel vs. DC map with real heroes and villains and real character items such as the Infinity Gauntlet.

3. For the Animated Films tie-in, Ratatouille in a Zelda-like puzzler game. I mean, almost all of these games ARE adventure types, and not all are adventure gamers. But most of the reason people love to game is to use their noggins and think. Thats what seperated the better gaming surgeons during operation and the non-gamer surgeons(heard about it?). Even though they will not remember a game for its graphics, some sleeper games are remembered by their puzzler content(Ico, anyone?)

4. Since GI Joe is rumored to come out, along with Thundercats, an RTS game for the former and a Diablo-like hack and slash for the latter. Factories cranking out vehicles(extra cool factor for the retro-like graphics, but not too retro please) and frantic gameplay. I admit, if they crank out all these movie tie-ins as hack and slash game, I will eat it up! Hehehehehe. But its the gameplay that works and stands the test of time, and eventually evolved into mmorpgs.

5. And finally, unlockable content, a branching storyline, maybe do a fighting game or two, and maybe the world will take a serious look at this treasure trove of games genre. oh, and mini-games for the casual gamers

What do you think? comments? suggestions? ^_^
